arnek-gp.jpgimages.jpegArne Kaijser (born 1950) is professor of History of Technology at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm. He holds a M.Sc. in Technical Physics (1973), and a PhD in Technology and Social Change (1986). He worked as civil servant in the 1970s and 80s with futures studies, funding of energy research and development aid. Since 1991 he has been based at KTH and he was Chair of the Department of History of Science and Technology from1998 to 2007. He has been elected to be President of the Society for History of Technology 2009-2010.

His main research interests concern the historical development of infrastructural systems. He has studied many different kind of systems (energy systems, transportation systems, communication systems and water systems) in several countries (Sweden, Nordic countries, the Netherlands and the US). In 1993/94 he was a guest researcher at the Department of History of Technology, Technical University of Delft, Netherlands, and in 2001 he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Dibner Institute for the History of Science and Technology at MIT.

Arne participated in Tensions of Europe/ Inventing Europe since 1999. In the ‘exploratory phase' (1999-2005) he coordinated, with Erik van der Vleuten, the research theme ‘Networking Europe'. He was also member of the Coordinating Committee of the research program "Tensions of Europe", 1999-2005, and is at present member of the Scientific Committee of the Inventing Europe program.
